No, we didn’t win the post code lottery, but 30 villagers turned out on Sunday 12th March for the annual litter pick up. We were fortunate to have lovely weather, not too cold, and no rain, which made the event much nicer for everyone. It was great too see groups of neighbours walking around together, all donned out in high viz jackets of course, having a natter and doing a great job.
Thank you very much to Somerset Council for providing the litter pickers, jackets and rubbish sacks!
After the mornings work, which resulted in 20 sacks of rubbish being collected, we descended on Court Farm for a well earned bacon butty and a cuppa. Many thanks to Maria and Phil for hosting us!
Everyone commented that the main parts of the village were actually very clean and litter was hard to find. This was welcome news, but also testament to the many villagers that pick up litter on a daily basis ‘just because’. The ‘hot spots’ were out along The Nydon, and along Lippets Way, most likely due to through traffic and some drivers not being too considerate with their rubbish ….
Many thanks go out to the Catcott Village Association for organising this event. Some villagers requested another clean-up in the autumn, so keep an eye out for further details if that is possible to arrange.
